DIED.

GAGE.--In Fairfield, Iowa, March 24th, 1877, Mr. Charles H. GAGE, aged 38 years, 10 months and 6 days.

Mr. GAGE was well and favorably known to many of our citizens. Always affable and pleasant, he endeared himself to those with whom he became acquainted, and they will always kindly and lovingly remember him.-- In his last sickness he was faithfully attended by a loving wife and affectionate relatives, who did all in their power to prolong and make his sojourn upon earth pleasant. The funeral took place from the residence of his mother-in-law, Mrs. A. R. HURST. The services were conducted by Rev. C. Reed, who read some passages of Scripture, and by Rev. H. E. Wing, who delivered an impressive address. The remains were escorted to their last resting place by the Masonic fraternity.

The following action was taken by the Masonic Order in this city, of which Mr. GAGE was an exemplary and worthy member:

Clinton Lodge, No, 15, A. F. and A. M.,}
Fairfield, Iowa, March 26, 1877. }

Brother Chas. H. GAGE having departed this life, and having this day committed his body to the grave, we, his brethren, in Lodge assembled, hereby record in memory of him the following sentiment:

Our life is a march in the dark, through the flesh to futurity. One by one in our lone wanderings we knock at the same low door. Happy he who, when there, trusts in a Guide whose word gives safe entrance to the temple of God. It is a source of congratulation that our Brother went not unattended, but, by faith, prepared in heart, was led by One who had gone that way before him.

He was a faithful man. His characteristics among us were: A sweet and gentle disposition; a loving, yielding, forgiving, tender heart; a generous, just and honorable man, with a courteous, knightly bearing, and a happy, winning manner. David found such as one in Jonathan,. A harsh word to him would have been most cruel. Perfidy and cunning might have found in his trusting heart an easy victim.

Masonry never found aught in him of which to feel ashamed; his love for her led him up through many degrees, and to his watchful eye and listening ear her lessons were not in vain. To his widow and friends, his Lodge and the world, this Lodge, under whose jurisdiction he spent his last years of labor, bears testimony of his worth, and to all we commend his virtues.

"The cross laid down,
Receive a crown,
Our Brother."

Resolved, That this report be spread upon the record and a certified copy thereof be, by our Secretary, handed to the widow, and also that a copy be forwarded to the Lodge of which the deceased was a member.
