Wife, Daughter Hurt--
John FRY Dies In Crash

John W. FRY, 68, Fairfield, was killed Tuesday afternoon and his wife and daughter were injured in a highway accident near Thayer in Union county.

Mrs. Ruby FRY, 57, and Sue Ann FRY, 20, wre both listed in serious condition today in the hospital at Creston.

Union County Sheriff George Stroman said the mishap occurred at 2:30 p.m. one-half mile west of Thayer on Highway 34.

The eastbound FRY car, driven by Mrs. FRY, sideswiped a semi-trailer truck driven by Larry Siever, 22, Walnut. The car went out of control, plunging over a steep embankment on the right side of the road and traveling about 75 yards before overturning.

Sheriff Stroman said a light mist was falling and the pavement was wet at the time of the accident. The FRY car had just crossed a railroad overpass when it met the westbound truck on a curve. The car brushed the hub-cap on the left front wheel of the truck, causing Mrs. FRY to lose control.

There was no damage to the truck.

Mrs. FRY and her daughter were taken to the Creston hospital by ambulance.

FRY was born and reared in Fairfield. The family resided in Chicago for many years where FRY was a machinist. After his retirement, they returned to Fairfield two years ago. The family home is at 1006 W. Burlington Ave.
