Illness Fatal To R. N. FRESHWATER

Robert Newton FRESHWATER, 69, 709 W. Grimes, died Friday at 9:46 p.m. at the Jefferson County Hospital where he had been a patient since Dec. 2.

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Winrich officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

FRESHWATER operated a dairy and restaurant in Birmingham and a restaurant in Fairfield. He also farmed near Birmingham for 10 years before returning to Fairfield four years ago.

He was born Nov. 5, 1902 in Jefferson County, the son of George W. and Berla CLINKENBEARD FRESHWATER. He was married to Hazel CREEK Nov. 28, 1923. She died Dec. 1, 1965. On April 23, 1967, he was married to Ruth LYONS, who survives.

Also surviving are three children: Mrs. Byrla Jean CANADAY, Virginia Beach, Va.; Mrs. Jo Ann WORKMAN, Fairfield; and Robert G. FRESHWATER, Gonzales, La.

Other survivors are six grandchildren; four step - children: Mrs. Charles WHITHAM, Mrs. Donna LYONS, Mrs. Sharon BISHOP and Larry LYONS, all of Fairfield; eight step-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren and three sisters: Mrs. Margaret BAKER, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Winifred EMONIN, Fairfield; and Mrs. Osa HOLCOMB, Bradenton, Fla.

FRESHWATER was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church and the Eagles Lodge (sic - Aerie/Club).
