LONG ILLNESS PROVES FATAL

James A. FRESHWATER, well known resident of Fairfield, passed away shortly after noon yesterday at his home, 1001 W. Hempstead. His death came at 12:55 p.m.

He had been in failing health for the past several years and suffered a stroke three weeks ago from which he never recovered.

Last rites will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Rev. Frank Deaver in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

James A. FRESHWATER, 74, was born February 1, 1876 at Douds, Iowa, the son of the late Archibald and Emily Jane STINE FRESHWATER. He moved to Fairfield when quite young and had spent his entire life in this community since then.

He was united in marriage on March 7, 1899, to Etta (sic - Mary Etta) LOWRY. The marriage took place in the Baptist parsonage in Fairfield.

FRESHWATER was employed at the Iowa Malleable Iron company for 43 years as a molder, and was a member of the Eagles lodge (sic - Aerie/Club).

Besides his wife, he is survived by the following children: Glen (sic - Glenn) A. FRESHWATER, Fairfield; James William FRESHWATER, San Gabriel, California; Mrs. A. R. MILLER, Des Moines; Mrs. Floyd BEST, Fairfield; and Mrs. L. G. SHAW, Mt. Pleasant. One daughter, Mrs. Elsie ROBERTS, preceded him in death in 1932.

RELATIVES FROM DISTANCE FOR FRESHWATER FUNERAL

Mrs. A. R. MILLER of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert SHAW and children of Mt. Pleasant have returned to their homes after being called here by the death of their father, James FRESHWATER.

Others here from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fay, Mrs. Bertha Huppert and Mrs. Ruth Davis, Burlington; Mr. and Mrs. Earl LOWRY, Mrs. W. C. LOWRY, Mrs. Harry DeVault of Bloomfield; Mrs. Bernard Hogetts and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey FRESHWATER, Ottumwa; Mr. and Mrs. Perry FRESHWATER, Davenport; Louis Boos, Lockridge; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Tweedy, Gerald SHAW, Mrs. Ralph Ward, all of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Cora Galliway, May Bunstock and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Galliway, all of Eldon.
