... --Mr. and Mrs. Vern C. WHITE of Cedar Rapids were in Fairfield yesterday to see Mrs. WHITE's father, A. V. FRAZEY, a patient in the Jefferson county hospital. Mrs. Ellis FRAZEY of Portland, Ore., has also been in the city for a few days. The WHITEs and Mrs. FRAZEY left to return to their respective homes yesterday. Mr. FRAZEY is reported to be somewhat improved. ...

His three sons, Verle, Ellis and Delmar, have been called to his bedside. Sunday, his nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde BUNKER of Salem, visited in the FRAZEY home. Mrs. Vern WHITE of Cedar Rapids, daughter of Mrs. FRAZEY, is assisting with the work at the home.

DEATH TAKES A. V. FRAZEY

A. V. FRAZEY, former funeral director and well known resident of Fairfield, passed away at 3:15 a.m. today at the Jefferson county hospital where he had been a patient since Monday, August 11. He was 81 years old at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Methodist church with Dr. W. R. Keesey, Ottumwa, in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will be taken from the Hoskins funeral home at 2 p.m. and will lie in state at the church from 2 to 3 p.m. the day of the services.

Aurelius Vilroy FRAZEY was born November 8, 1865 near Perlee in Jefferson county, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. F. FRAZEY. He married Alice ELLIS on June 10, 1890, and she passed away July 3, 1916. He later married Mrs. Lissa TAYLOR on June 13, 1925 (sic - 1922), who survives.

Mr. FRAZEY was among the first licensed embalmers in the state. He lived in Hedrick, Iowa, for a number of years before he moved to Fairfield in 1905. After his arrival here, he erected the building at 119 N. Court street where he operated a funeral parlor until 1922. At that time he sold out and retired from the undertaking profession.

Mr. FRAZEY remained quite active in his later years and was well known in the community.

He is survived by his wife and the following three sons: Verle, Park Rapids, Minnesota; Delmer, Omaha, and Ellis, Portland, Oregon. Two step-daughters, Mrs. Vern WHITE, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Geneva LYON, Arlington, Georgia, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, also survive.

Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.135 with first wife Alice. Second wife Melissa 'Lissa' TRIBBY TAYLOR FRAZEY died in 1952 and was buried with her first husband in Henry Co., IA. Although Aurelius' obituary notes he was born on November 8th, his Death Certificate gives the date as November 18th, with an age of 81 years, 9 months, and 2 days. Vital records such as birth certificates were not required to be kept until July, 1880, so no official birth record is available at the county level.
