From the time Larry's feet hit the ground, his passion was and always had been farming. At a young age, you could almost always find Larry at his dad's side helping around the farm. Whether it be with the livestock, row crop or haying you would find him in his happy place. As a teenager, if Larry wasn't farming, he would most likely befound at either a sheep show, out causing mischief with his friends while driving his hunter orange Chevelle, or tormenting his older sisters. Larry then went on to share his love for farming with his own children, Celsey and Carroll, who like him growing up could often be found at their dad's side.

For those who knew Larry, knew he was a hard worker. Always a hard worker but always seemed to know how to have fun and smile while working. Once the work was done for the day or a season Larry could often be found making memories with his nephews who looked up to him and appreciated his orneriness and later his children.

Larry made memories with family and friends by carrying on his parents love and enjoyment for farm stock tractor pulling. This was another love he was able to teach and pass on to his children. It wasn't unlikely to find him starting his kids at one end of the track and running right alongside them all the way down the track to catch them at the end.

Being a Jefferson County Fair Board member for 15 years was another passion of Larry's and you would find him every year at the Greater Jefferson County Fair.

Besides farming Larry also worked at Walmart Distribution Center and then Richers Farm. The last couple years of his life spent driving a truck through the week for Grandinette Metal Recycling.

You could find Larry spending his free time camping and tractor pulling with the love of his life, Mindy. Although finding Minday later in life, Larry found his soul mate. They were married on Feb. 29, 2020. They enjoyed doing everything together from farming and traveling to spending time with their kids and grandkids.

Larry is survived by his wife, Mindy (CARPENTER) HORTON of Lockridge, Iowa; his children, Celsey HORTON of Lockridge, Carroll (Taran) HORTON of Allerton, Iowa, Taigen HEFNER (Cameron) of Lockridge and Trent HEFNER of Lockridge; grandchildren, Brogan Glen and Bodhi Jane HORTON of Allerton; sisters, Evelyn (Mike) FILSON of Birmingham, Iowa, and Diana (Richard) ALEXANDER of Fairfield, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Beverly HORTON; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
