GRACE VIOLA SMITH

Grace Viola SMITH, 93, of Agency, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, at her home (note: in Wapello Co., IA). Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Abingdon Christian Church in Abingdon, Iowa, with Richard Ellis officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, Nov. 11, at the church and will last until the time of service. Burial will be held in Abingdon Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorial contributions in Grace's honor may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or to the Susan G. Komen Foundation at (komen.org). Friends may sign the online guest book at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Grace Viola SMITH was born Dec. 9, 1927, in Abingdon, Iowa, to Carl and Maud SMITH NORDYKE. She graduated from Packwood High School and began working at Universal Plastics in Fairfield. She was united in marriage to Raymond SMITH on Nov. 25, 1957, in Ottumwa, Iowa, and they became the loving parents of three children: Richard, Debra and Vernon. Grace cherished being a homemaker, wife and mother. She always managed to keep busy working around the house and caring for her family. If there was something that needed to be done, she was not afraid to do it. Grace also spent several years working for Mrs. Bonser's Noodles in Agency, Iowa. Grace enjoyed spending time working outside in her garden and cooking what she had raised. She was known for making stuffed teddy bears for family and friends. She even had one that made it all the way to Norway. Grace will be missed by her family and friends but remembered for her kind spirit and her big heart.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; and eight siblings, Robert, Bill, Richard, David, Madeline, Helen and Walter and Kenneth, in infancy.

She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond of Agency, Iowa; three children, Richard (Donna) SMITH of Agency, Debra (Rodney) RITZ of Batavia, Iowa, and Vernon SMITH of Agency; three grandchildren, Tabatha HARTLEY, Courtney WADDLE and Shelby SMITH; three great-grandchildren, Logan ABLE, Addison ABLE,and (sic) Aelyn WADDLE; three siblings, Delbert (Maryann) NORDKYE, Ronald (Carol) NORDYKE and Mary (Mike) DAY; as well as many extended family and friends.
