Rites For W. C. EMRY

Funeral services will be Tuesday for William C. EMRY, 67, who died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Hospital following a lengthy illness.

The services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

William C. "Bill" EMRY was born Sept. 23, 1907, in Fairfield. He was the son of Clarence and Nelle COOK EMRY. He was reared and educated in Fairfield and attended Dakota College in Madison, S.D., for two years, and Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was married to Rose SCHNEIDER April 19, 1936, in Sioux Falls, S.D. She survives.

They moved to Fairfield in June, 1948, and he was employed at the Dexter Co. as an accountant before his retirement. Prior to moving back to this community, he was credit manager for Nash Finch at Watertown, S.D., for nine years.

EMRY was a member of the United Methodist Church, BPO Elks, 1192; was active in church choir work and an active leader in Cub and Boy Scout organizations. The family home is at 603 W. Burlington.

One of his many pleasures in life was playing the part of Santa Claus during the holiday season from 1949 through 1970. He appeared for many individuals and organizations, bringing happiness and enjoyement to a countless number of children and grownups alike.

As his health failed him, "Mrs. Santa Claus" accompanied him the past two or three years so he could continue doing what he loved to do as long as possible.

In addition to his widow, W.C. EMRY is survived by two sons, Bill, Grinnell; Robert, New York City; and two granddaughters.

Other survivors are a half-sister, Jessie EMRY, Denver, Colo.; two half-brothers, Chester EMRY, Long Beach, Calif., and Lawrence EMRY, Santa Rosa, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother.

Members of the family would appreciate memorials to the "Bill Emry Music Scholarship Fund" which may be left at the Raymond Funeral Home.
