SUCCUMBS TO LONG ILLNESS

Death came Monday night to Elizabeth M. EMRY, native of Jefferson county and a resident of Fairfield since 1948 when she and her mother returned here to make their home.

She passed away at 10:30 p.m. Monday at the Chatfield Nursing home in Ottumwa where she had been a patient since February 23 (note: in Wapello Co., IA). Miss EMRY had been in failing health for the past year, was taken to the Jefferson county hospital December 16, 1949, and then to the Chatfield Nursing home in February.

Last rites will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. L. L. Weis in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Elizabeth M. EMRY, 55, was born May 26, 1895, near Pleasant Plain in Jefferson county, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Margaret SCHAEFER EMRY. She attended grade schools in Jefferson county and graduated from the Fairfield high school.

After her graduation she taught school for two years, then went to Washington, D. C. where she was employed by the Civil Service Commission until her reitrement in 1947. She and her mother, who also made her home in Washington, D. C. for several years, returned to Bloomfield to make their home in August, 1947, and a year later they returned to Fairfield.

Her mother passed away December 23, 1949, and her father died a number of years ago. Miss EMRY was also preceded in death by a sister, Lake EMRY, who died February 26, 1939. Elizabeth EMRY, who never married, is the last member of her family.

She is survived by several aunts and uncles and other relatives.

Note: Buried in Lot 3rd.174½. She shares a monument with her sister Lake, and their mother Margaret. Her father, Thomas, is buried in Walnut Creek Cemetery.
