Death Comes To William ELDER

LIBERTYVILLE -- William H. ELDER, 77, longtime resident of Jefferson County, died at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday at Benjamin Hershey Memorial Hospital in Muscatine. He had been in failing health for some time.

Last rites will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Gilmore officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

William H. ELDER was born Sept. 27, 1892, near What Cheer, the son of Walter and Effie CURRY ELDER. He was reared and educated in the What Cheer Community.

On May 22, 1917, he was married to Nellie DAVISON in Fairfield. She preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 1947. A retired farmer, he had made his home the past five years in Libertyville.

ELDER was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie BOWERMASTER, Libertyville; two sons, Merlin, Fairfield, and Richard, Muscatine; 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Hattie JONES, Batavia; Mrs. Zilpha DONAHUE, Clinton; and Mrs. Clara RANSON, Cedar Rapids.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, J. Eugene, who died Aug. 17, 1969; also one grandchild, two great grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.
