Death came early this morning to Frank J. EDWARDS, long-time Fairfield resident and retired factory employee.
He passed away about 4:40 a.m. at his home, 707 W. Kirkwood street, after a serious illness of the past several weeks. He had been in failing health for several years and took seriously ill on Christmas.
Last rites will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with the Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Frank J. EDWARDS, 79, was born March 17, 1872, at Salem, Ia. He was the son of the late John P. and Martha JOY EDWARDS. He was united in marriage on May 4, 1892, to Elizabeth JONES, who survives. The wedding took place at Fairfield.
EDWARDS had made his home in Fairfield for the past 61 years and was a pattern maker at a local factory for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Eagles, and the Golden Wedding club.
Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Loretta McFARLAND, Fairfield; and two sons, C. M. EDWARDS, Albany, N. Y., and John W. EDWARDS, Rock Island. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Nora MULKINS, Fairfield, and Mrs. J. P. ALMOND, Salem.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Out of town relatives here to attend the funeral services for Frank EDWARDS Sunday were a son and family, Mr. and Mrs. John EDWARDS and children of Rock Island and a sister, Mrs. Pearl ALMOND and son Ralph of Salem.
Also here were Mr. and Mrs. Clayton (Jack) Sprat of Des Moines; Mr. Ella Pinske, Bayard, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bartlett, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bartlett, Mrs. Anna Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Switzer, Mrs. Ralph Hird and Mrs. Ivan Frey and daughter Joan, all of Ottumwa.
Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Kettering, Mediapolis; Jacqueline EDWARDS, Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. Keith McFARLAND, Camp Edwards, Mass.; LeRoy Teal, Kilbourne; Barbara Staves and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Switzer, Burlington and Eleanor Staves, Iowa City.
