Harvey L. EASTON, 78, had been a resident of this community for over 70 years. For a time he was in business here with his brother, Oscar EASTON, operating the laundry.
Later he was in the automobile and garage business in Lockridge, Mt. Pleasant, and took over the Ford agency in Fairfield in 1929. A few years later he left the garage business and in February, 1936, he was named assistant city clerk. "Harve", as his many friends knew him, was put in charge of the water office which was still under the jurisdiction of the mayor and council at that time.
He also served as city clerk for a time, and in 1947 when the water department was placed under the jurisdiction of a water board, he was named water clerk. He served in that capacity until his retirement July 1, 1959.
Harvey L. EASTON was born on May 4, 1884, at Fairbury, Ill., the son of Alex and Jennie JOHNSON EASTON. He was married to Emma Lou IRWIN on June 8, 1910. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and the family home is located at 105 South C street.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Wilbur MAYER, Fairfield; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Oscar EASTON, Fairfield, and P. J. EASTON, Los Angeles, Calif.
