FORMER FAIRFIELD BOY DIED IN MONTANA YESTERDAY.

A message has been received here by relatives announcing the death of Frank DUKE which occurred yesterday morning at Billings, Montana. after a three days' illness with pneumonia.

The message comes as a great shock to his relatives and many friends here, as it was not known that he was sick. He was about nineteen years of age and had been attending school in that city for the past year, leaving Fairfield soon after the close of school last year.

He had always made his home with his grandmother, Mrs. Margaret COX, who resides on West Jackson street, after the death of his mother when he was quite small, the grandmother raising he and his sister, Miss Mae DUKE, who is a teacher, who with his father, who is in illinois, survive him.

No arrangements have been made for the funeral as it is not known when the body will arrive in this city.

LIFE OF FRANK DUKE.

The funeral services of Frank DUKE, which were largely attended, were held at the home of his grandmother in the southwestern part of the city Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, and were conducted by Rev. Polly. The remains were interred in Polly. The remains were interred in Evergreen cemetery (sic).

Frank DUKE was born in Fairfield July 22, 1899, and died near Billings, Mont., March 7, 1918, being in his nineteenth year. The deceased spent most of his life in this city and was a student in the public schools, and his death is now mourned by many of his former schoolmates. He would have graduated this year from the high school if he had remained in same. On account of failing health he decided that a western climate might be beneficial to him, and in May, 1917, he went to the place where he died, being at the time of his death a student in the Polytechnic Institute.

The mother of Frank died when he was only about three years old; since which time he and his sister, May, have mostly made their home with their grandmother, Mrs. Martha COX, who has so bountifully provided and cared for them.

Frank was a bright and energetic boy, but he was hindered by a naturally frail body, so that when pneumonia seized him as its victim the battle was short, and in three days the disease proved fatal. He was much loved by his sister and other relatives, and he acted the part of a kind an dutiful son to his grandmother while under her affectionate care. The passing away of one so young in life makes the even (sic - event) one of peculiar sadness; but his loving remembrance will continue to exist as the years may go by.

C ommunications (sic) from friends at Billings say that Frank was making a fine record in the polytechnic school which he was attending, and that he was leading a Christian life.
