William A. 'Bill' DUGGAN

William A. "Bill" DUGGAN, 76, formerly of Fairfield, died at 8:21 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2001, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, where he had been a resident since suffering a stroke July 15, 1985 (note: in Marshall Co., IA).

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating.

Open visitation will begin at noon Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in his hame to the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Mr. DUGGAN was born Jun 8, 1924, in Ottumwa, the son of John J. and Laura ULLRICK (sic - ULLRICH) DUGGAN.

He was educated in the Fairfield schools and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1942. He entered military service in September 1943, serving during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a tailgunner in a B24 Liberator bomber. He few 35 missions over Normandy, France, the Ardennes and Rhineland before his discharge in 1945. He received the Air Medal, with three oak clusters, and four Bronze Star Medals.

He attended Parsons College for two years following his military service. He had worked as manager and bookkeeper of the Fairfield Hotel.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Charles DUGGAN; and two sisters, Irene WINFREY and Marcene PHILLIPS.
