RUBEN D. DUBOIS DIED LAST NIGHT
Old Resident of Jefferson County Succumbed To Heart Attack

Ruben R. DuBOIS, a life long resident of Jefferson county, passed away at his home last night following a severe heart attack.

Although Mr. DuBOIS had been in poor health recently his condition was not considered serious and his death came as a shock to the community.

During the evening he and Mrs. DuBOIS had sat talking on the front porch and he seemed in his usual state of health. Later in the evening they had gone into the house and Mr. DuBOIS was sitting in a chair when he fell to the floor unconscious. A doctor was immediately summoned but death came in a few minutes.

Ruben D. DuBOIS, the son of John W. and Elizabeth DuBOIS, was born December 25, 1842, at La Harpe, Illinois. When but a few weeks old he came to Fairfield with his parents who settled on a farm one mile west of town. Later they moved to Fairfield and lived at what is now the end of West Stone street.

On December 21, 1865 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah WELCH and to this union was born one child, Lottie, who was later Mrs. J. W. DAY and who passed away in 1901 leaving two small children. These two children, Harold D., of this city and Wilbur M. of Clinton, a brother, John of Merdo (sic - Murdo), South Dakota, a sister, Mrs. Sarah BIRT of this city and Mrs. DuBOIS survive him.

Mr. DuBOIS united with the Methodist Episcopal church as a young man and served on the church board for a number of years. He was always interested in the church and its work and attended services regularly until his affliction kept him away.

He has also been a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge No. 4 for many years.

The funeral will be held from the house Thursday morning in charge of Dr. C. L. Tennant. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.
