DIED AT ADVANCED AGE
Charles D. DONALDSON Aged 82 Died at His Home Monday Night After Short Illness.

Charles D. DONALDSON passed away at his home on West Adams street Monday night at 10:20 o'clock after a short illness. He was in the 83rd year of his age. Deceased came to this city from Pennsylvania during the early part of his young manhood(.) Since coming to Fairfield he has been one of the most highly esteemed citizens of the city. His wife proceeded (sic) him in death about five years ago.

He leaves to mourn his departure two children, Mrs. George GILCHRIST and W. E. DONALDSON both of this city.

Mr. DONALDSON was an old soldier and a member of George Strong Post No. 19 G. A. R. of this city. The members will attend the funeral in a body. Only last Friday they attended the last services held over the body of one of their comrades and now are called upon to attend the last rites of another.

The funeral wil be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Presbyterian church. Rev. W. F. Jones will conduct the service.

A Good Man Called Home.

Charles D. DONALDSON died at his home in this city Monday evening. He had been a resident of Fairfield since 1850 and an elder in the First Presbyterian church for forty-six years. Mr. DONALDSON was born in Adams county, Penn., November 15th. 1824. He was married in the same state, October 10th, 1850, to Margaret McGINLEY, who died in this city March 24th, 1902. Three children were born to them, two of whom are now living--Mrs. G. W. GILCHRIST and W. E. DONALDSON, both of this city. The family removed to Fairfield in 1856, and this place has since been its home without interruption. Mr. DONALDSON was a soldier in the War of the Rebellion and had an excellent military record. He enlisted as a private in Company H, Thirtieth Iowa infantry, and was mustered out as a first lieutenant. He was an honest, industrious man, his daily life was an example to those about him, and he bore the esteem and good will of the people of this community as few other men have done. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian church this afternoon at 2:30. Rev. W. F. Jones and Rev. J. G. Condit will conduct them. Geo. Strong post, G. A. R., will have charge of the exercises at the grave.

Comrade Charles D. DONALDSON died at his home on West Adams street Monday night a little after 10 o'clock. He had been a long time resident of this city, a carpenter by trade. He was in his 83 year. He enlisted in 30th, Iowa Inft. in the Fall of 1862 and served to the close of the war. His comrades who served in the same company speak very highly of him as a soldier. He was the oldest Elder in the Presbyterian church in this city. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. W. F. Jones. The members of George Strong Post G. A. R attended the funeral serv ices (sic).

Obituary.

Charles D. DONALDSON was born in Adams county, Pennsylvania, Nov. 15, 1824, and died at his home in this city Monday evening of last week. He was a resident of Fairfield since 1850 and enjoyed the distinction of having been an elder in the Presbyterian church for 46 years. He was married in 1850 to Margaret McGINLEY, who died here in 1902, since which time he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. G. W. GILCHRIST, who with a brother, W. E. DONALDSON, are sole survivors of the family. Deceased was a soldier in the war of '63, enlisting as a private and mustered out as first lieutenant. He was a man of exemplary character and held the esteem and good will of all who knew him.

Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Jones, assisted by Rev. Condit. The members of G. A. R. post attended in a body and had charge of the services at the cemetery.
