FATALLY HURT IN FALL FROM LOCAL HOUSE

Coroner Jack Raymond said this morning there will be no inquest in the death of V. A. DOBRAS, well known Fairfield resident who was killed late yesterday afternoon in a fall from a roof he was repairing.

The accident took place at the Mrs. M. V. Stephens property at 309 W. Adams street about 4:15 p.m. DOBRAS, who resides at 308 S. Fourth street, had been engaged to make some repairs on the roof of the two-story house.

No one saw DOBRAS start to fall, but a neighbor saw him falling through the air and hit the ground. She is Mrs. Vernon Reeder who resides next door to the Stephens home. She told officers she heard a clatter, probably the ladder starting to fall, and as she looked out her kitchen window she saw DOBRAS and the ladder falling.

She said a short time earlier she had seen DOBRAS up on the roof but didn't know whether he was on the roof or on the ladder when he fell.

An ambulance was called and he was rushed to the Jefferson county hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Coroner Raymond said he died of internal injuries including a fractured pelvis, three fractured ribs, and died of internal hemorrhage when the fractured ribs punctured his lungs.

Last rites will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary Catholic church with Father O. F. DeCoursey in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at the Hoskins funeral home at 9 p.m. Friday.

Valentine Alexander DOBRAS, 72, was born February 14, 1879, in Poland, and the son of the late Anthony and Pauline SCHMANIAC DOBRAS. He came to this country when 12 years old and settled in the Richwoods community near Fairfield.

He made his home in that community until he moved to Fairfield three years ago.

DOBRAS was united in marriage on February 6, 1907, to Charlotte Gertrude DIERS, who survives. The wedding took place at the Polishville Parsonage. He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic church.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Harlan DOBRAS, Fairfield; two brothers, A. J. DOBRAS, Mitchell, South Dakota, and B. E. DOBRAS, Fairfield, and a sister, Mrs. Martha BANNACH, Peshtigo, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Harold, a brother, John, and a sister, Katherine.
