MR JOHN DILL PASSES AWAY
Well Known Citizen Passes Away at His Home Early Wednesday Morning

Our citizens were somewhat surprised this morning on hearing that John DILL has passed away a short time after midtight (sic), at his home on South third street. Mr. DILL had been confined to his home for the past two or three weeks but was not thought to be in a dangerous condition, up to the last few days when those concerned began to be alarmed. Gastric ulceration of the stomach soon did its work, and his end came ere too soon.

Mr. DILL is a well know man (sic) in this and van Buren counties and owned a large farm near Stockport, where he spent the most of his time though his family lived here, his wife being an invalid for years, it was necessary to be away from the farm life, where she could be better taken care of. Mr. DILL was in his sixtyfirst year and leaves a widow, one daughter and two sons to mourn his departure.

The funeral services will be held from the home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Dr. W. E. Parsons.

Our sympathies are extended to the bereaved friends in their hour of affliction.

The boast of heraldry, the pomp of power,
And all that beauty, all that wealth e'er gave
Await like the inevitable hour,
All the paths of glory lead but to the grave.

John DILL Is Dead.

John DILL, a man who had a wide acquaintance in Jefferson and Van Buren counties, died at his home in this city early Thursday morning. He had been in ill health, a sufferer from an affection of the stomach, for eighteen months past. He was an unusually large man, weighing 387 pounds when first taken ill, but lost nearly 150 pounds during his sickness. Mr. DILL was born in Van Buren county September 4th, 1845, a son of a pioneer family, and grew to maturity there. He was married to Miss Agnes LOUDEN in this county December 16th, 1865 (sic - Dec. 19th). They were the parents of five children, three of whom, with the mother, are living--John A. of Van Buren county, Bert A. and Miss Cora M. DILL of this city. The family removed to this city about twenty years ago, where Mr. DILL operated a livery stable and bought and shipped horses. For several years past, while maintaining his home here, he has been a traveling salesman and has spent much of his time abroad. He was an active and industrious man, warm hearted and liberal with his fellows, and there are many friends in the community who will join with the immediate family in mourning his death. The body was interred in the Evergreen cemetery, this city, Sunday afternoon, Rev. Thomas Osborn conducting the service.
