Herman DEDEN dies suddenly

Herman DEDEN, who had been associated with the lumber business for approximately half a century, died this morning at the Jefferson County Hospital.

He became suddenly ill at his home, 106 Wilson Blvd., and was taken to the hospital where he died a short time after his arrival.

Services are pending at the Behner Funeral Home.

DEDEN had been a resident of Fairfield since 1937 when he came to Fairfield as manager of the Cable Lumber Co. located in the New Chicago Area.

He had previously served in the retail lumber business for four years in Minnesota, four years in South Dakota and five years at Burlington before coming to Fairfield.

When the Cable Lumber Co. closed in October, 1970, it was one of the oldest firms in Fairfield at that time. The Cable firm started from a saw mill in Davenport in 1866. The Cable firm purchased a lumber yard in Fairfield in 1897 and had been in business since.

After the Cable Lumber Co. closed DEDEN was associated with the Fairfield Lumber Co. beginning in January, 1971. He later retired.

In March of 1969 DEDEN received a citation and commendation for long and faithful service to the Retail Lumber Industry from the Northwestern Lumberman's Association.
