Mrs. Edward DAVIES died at the home of her son, John DAVIES, in this city the 3d inst. She had been failing in health ever since the death of her husband two years ago, and longed to join him in that better land. Mrs. DAVIES' maiden name was Ellen WRIGHT and she was born in Flint, Hawarden county, Wales, February 17th, 1810. In Liverpool, England, February 26th, 1838, she was married to Edward DAVIES. Four children were born to them, two of whom are living, Thomas DAVIES of Blackhawk township and John DAVIES of this city. The other children died in infancy and are buried in the old country. She endured patiently and uncomplainingly the vicissitudes and hardships of pioneer life, and her kindness of heart and readiness to help those about her won her many lifelong friends. In 1884 she removed with her husband to this city to a home on West Burlington street, where she resided until about ten days previous to her death. Mrs. DAVIES was raised in the faith of the Episcopal church but on coming to this country joined the Congregational church at Burlington, and has evern been a consistent and faithful christian. Her faith was the simple, unquestioning faith of a child, and her daily life showed forth her firm and unswerving belief in her Master. No one could know Mrs. DAVIES and not be better for having come under her influence, and she will long be remembered. Funeral services were held at the home of her son, John DAVIES, Thursday afternoon, and were conducted by Rev. C. L. Snowden, assisted by Rev. A. F. Marsh.
