ED CRAWFORD DIES IN LIFT ACCIDENT
Backed Into It At Louden's Late Yesterday Afternoon -- Funeral Tomorrow

Ed CRAWFORD, 40 years old, was killed late yesterday afternoon when he was caught in a freight elevator at the Louden Machinery company's plant. He was handling a truckload of castings in the basement and was backing toward the elevator when George Stever, operating the elevator, started the lift upward. CRAWFORD backed against the platform of the elevator which picked him up in a sitting posture and carried him upward. Stever saw the situation and reversed the machinery and CRAWFORD fell off. Stever again sent the elevator upward so as not to catch CRAWFORD underneath.

It was not thought at first that he was seriously injured. A physician was summoned and the injured man was placed on a stretcher in Walter Louden's car to be rushed to the hospital. On the way a doctor, en route to the scene, was met and made an examination, which proved that the man was dead. The body was taken to an undertaker's.

Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be conducted by Dr. H. Sears Thomson, the pastor. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. CRAWFORD was born in Jefferson county forty years ago and was the son of John CRAWFORD, who now resides near Stockport. He was never married. He is survived by the following sisters and brothers: John CRAWFORD, Jr., of Stockport; Mrs. Florence FOSTER and Avin CRAWFORD of Hitt, Mo., and Miss Leila CRAWFORD of Downing, Mo.

Mr. CRAWFORD lived at the home of L. Hamm, 806 West Broadway and had worked at Louden's for the past five or six years.

This is the first fatal accident in the more than half century of Louden's business.
