MRS. JOHN JACOBSON SHOOTS SELF SUNDAY

The community southwest of Fairfield was shocked Sunday when it was learned that Mrs. Nettie JACOBSON, wife of John JACOBSON, had committed Suicide by shooting herself with a 22 caliber rifle in the temple.

She left the room in which were setting (sic) her husband and Alfred Armstrong and, going into the pantry, immediately shot herself, falling into the room where they were sitting. As it was not known that the rifle was in the house, her act was entirely unexpected.

For some time Mrs. JACOBSON has been acting strangely but it was not until last Saturday that she spoke to her husband in a manner that indicated that she was mentally unbalanced and might make an attempt on her life. Dr. Fordyce was summoned and later Alfred Armstrong. Then Sheriff Campbell was summoned but the tragedy occurred while only Mr. Armstrong and the husband were present.

Mrs. JACOBSON overheard a telephone conversation and otherwise sensed the fact that there was to be an investigation into her sanity. The rifle which she used did not belong to the family, and its presence was not suspected.

Mrs. JACOBSON, who was 35 years of age, is survived by her husband and an adopted daughter, Bertha, two sisters, Mrs. George STEVER, of this city, and Mrs. Geo. M. EARLY, of Lacon, Illinois.

Mrs. JACOBSON was the daughter of Joe SMALL. The funeral service will be from her late home at 2 p.m. tomorrow and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Owing to the obvious nature of the death no inquest was held.

Joy Moore’s Note: Find a Grave shows this was Nettie who was born Nov. 27, 1881 and died May 21, 1916. She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.

Admin note: Buried in Lot 2nd.006 with husband John. He subsequently married Hattie L. McKenstry Gudgell, and died in 1956. Second wife Hattie is buried on the same lot, having survived John and dying in 1970.
