Ray L. COX, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Southeastern Iowa Renal Dialysis Unit in Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Kurt Makower officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Eldon Cemetery (note: in Eldon, Wapello Co., IA). Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26 at the funeral home. A memorial has been established for the Southeastern Iowa Renal Dialysis Unit in Mt. Pleasant.

Most likely the publication was on January 23rd, 24th, or 25th. There is a memorial stone for him in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA, on Lot 3rd.200. His former wife, Lottie J. WINFREY COX, from whom he was divorced, is buried in Evergreen in Lot 3rd.201. A more complete obituary appears in the "Ottumwa Courier" on January 25, 2003, which notes that he was born at Mercer, MO, to Dewey and Alma Ellen THOMAS COX. He is a WWII veteran, having served in the Army in the 133rd Infantry, 34th Division. Two daughters survive him: Sharyn YEOMAN of Fairfield and Teresa GAYLORD of Mt. Pleasant; also 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded by one son, Danny Joe; two brothers, Roy and Dale; and one great-grandson.
