MRS. C. L. COX PASSES AWAY

Mrs. Lela Grace COX of Memphis, Mo. passed away late yesterday afternoon at St. Joseph's hospital in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA). She was severely burned in an accident at their farm home on April 1 of this year, and had been recovering nicely. She had returned to the hospital for a skin grafting operation. Death was due to a blood clot resulting from the burns.

Surviving are her husband, C. L. COX, Memphis, Mo.; two sons, Geo. COX of Fairfield; and Deek COX of the Brookville vicinity; a sister, Mrs. Ara SHANER FULTON, Fairfield; and two brothers, Ora and Ira SHANER of Burlington.

She was born and raised in Jefferson county and spent most of her life here before moving to Memphis three years ago. The family lived in the Brookville community and have a number of relatives and friends there.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, July 16 at 2:30 p.m. from the Hoskins funeral home.

RELATIVES COME TO ATTEND COX RITES

In the group of relatives and friends who attended the funeral services held on Sunday for Mrs. C. L. COX, were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Eckey, of Mt. Union, Mr. and Mrs. Ira SHANER and Mr. and Mrs. Ora SHANER of Burlington, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Archibald, Mrs. Grace Brower and Mrs. Walter Rauscher of Lockridge, Mrs. Myrtle Hodgens of Keosauqua, Mrs. Emmett PEACOCK of Mt. Sterling, Dr. and Mrs. Hubert COX and daughter, Marjorie of Canton, O.' and Mr. and Mrs. Frank CASE and son, Ronald, of Detroit, Mich.

Mrs. Emmett PEACOCK of Mt. Sterling attending the service for her sister, was accompanied by another sister, Mrs. A. L. SODERGREN, 404 North Fifth street and her brother and family, Dr. Hubert COX and Mrs. COX and daughter, Marjorie of Canton, O., who were also called here. The three returned to Fairfield on Tuesday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank CASE and son, Ronald, of Detroit, Mich', who attended the services, are extending the visit through next week, dividing the time between the home of her mother Mrs. Arelo FULTON, 305 West Harrison street, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall CASE, rural route 1-a. Mr. CASE also has an aunt, Mrs. Kate BALL living at 202 West Adams street with whom they will visit while here.
