Joel COLE (sic), an old and well known resident, died at his home in Fairfield Tuesday evening. Mr. COLE had lived here nearly forty years, having first settled in the country, we believe, northwest of town. He had lived earlier in life at Nauvoo, Ills., and was their (sic) identified with the Mormon Church of Latter Day Saints. An humble citizen, unassuming and plain, but faithful and diligent, he filled his station as a daily laborer much more creditably than many who occupy positions in higher walks of life. He was nearly eighty years old.

The Tribune was in error a few weeks ago in stating that Mr. Joel COWLES, deceased, had been a member of the Mormon church previous to coming to Iowa. We are now positively informed that he was never in any way connected with that church, but on the contrary that he joined the Baptist church in his youth and had never belonged to any other religious body.
