The service for William B. COURTNEY, 64, 300 E. Burlington Ave., who died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 1990, at Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa, Ariz., will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bonifacio Mequi and the Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7 tonight at Behner Funeral Home with visitation to follow at 8:30. Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Fund and First United Methodist Church.
COURTNEY was born May 25, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Clarence and Edna NORDGREN COURTNEY. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1942 and attended Parsons College. He married Marilyn EWING Aug. 18, 1946, in Fairfield. He started in busiess with his father as an auto mechanic and later owned and operated the Courtney Garage, and the dealership for Dodge and American Motors from 1964 to 1978. He also taught the auto mechanics class at Fairfield High School for five years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of First United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge 1192, and a past master of Masonic Lodge AF and AM 634, Chapter Consistory, KAABA Shrine. He was a Boy Scout leader, volunteer fireman, past president of Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and served on the junior ag fair board and Airport Committee.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Michael of Highland Park, Ill.; two daughters, Kathryn HOSKINS of Cherokee, Patricia HAGAN of Mesquite, Texas; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; his parents of Fairfield; two sisters, Shirley HERTEL of Fairfield, Marilyn JUNGMAN of Van Meter and a brother, Robert of Phoenix, Ariz.
