We are called upon to record the death of another of our old citizens. This time it is the name of Dr. W. W. COTTLE that is stricken from the roll of old settlers. His death occurred at his home in this city Friday evening at 7½ o'clock, many of his acquaintances not knowing that he was sick. He was first attacked Saturday evening previous, but rallied for a few days. Tuesday he was taken worse with a congestive chill, followed by others until his death. Dr. COTTLE was born in Belmont county, Ohio, February 6th, 1817. He came to Jefferson county in 1846, settling near Glasgow and pursuing the practice of medicine, the study of which he had commenced in 1840. He was a constant and successful laborer in his profession until 1868. About that time he engaged in merchandizing, living in various places for about seven years. While residing in Glasgow he was elected to the legislature in 1859, serving during the session of 1859-60 and the extra session of 1861. In February 1861 he was married to Miss Elizabeth E ENDERSLEY, who, with two children, now mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. Dr. COTTLE was highly esteemed as friend and citizen, and since his return to Jefferson county about seven years ago formed many new and pleasant associations. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon, Sept. 12. Services were held at the house, Rev. John B. Hill, of Agency City, officiating. There was a large concourse of old friends and sympathizing citizens in attendance.

DR. COTTLE
had been sick but a few days and no one supposed him to be dangerously so. His death at half-past seven Friday evening, therefore, was a surprise to everybody. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon, and was very largely attended, the services of the occasion being conducted by Rev. Hill, of Agency. Dr. COTTLE was born Feb. 6, 1817, in Belmont Co., Ohio, and came to this county in 1846, settling near Glasgow. In 1847 he received his professional diploma from Missouri University. He continued the practice of medicine until 1868. Five years of this time he spent in Centerville. He was afterwards engaged in merchandise in Glasgow and also was in the lumber business in Brookfield, Mo. He served in the state legislature in 1860. He leaves a wife and two children to mourn his loss. Dr. COTTLE stood high in the estimation of the public, and his death is the going out of a man whom all citizens regarded as a just and upright one. ...
