VAN EDWARD FILSON
Birmingham

Van Edward FILSON, age 91, of Birmingham, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021, at his home.

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Maple Hill Cemetery, with the Reverend Larry Smith officiating (note: in Birmingham, Van Buren Co., IA).

Memorials may be made to Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham Fire Department or Birmingham Methodist Church. Cards and memorials may be mailed to Carol Wells, 1300 Elm Avenue, Packwood, IA 52580.

Van was born November 20, 1929, to Earl M. and Hazel (CARL) FILSON in Birmingham. He married Barbara Janet STEELE on February 2, 1967, at the First United Methodist Church, Fairfield. They were married 51 years before she passed away on August 28, 2019.

Van worked 14 years at Dexter Company as a production worker, farm hand for 5 years and 30 years as a carpenter. Van was a perfectionist. If anything needed fixed Van could do it he was known as a handyman. He also enjoyed rebuilding tractors. While inside he would read books and newspapers. Van and Barbara went on many trips through the Fairfield Heritage Club. He was a member of the Birmingham Methodist Church.

Van will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Hazel FILSON; wife, Barbara; and siblings, Lucille TAYLOR, Esther CUNNINGHAM, Ida Mae McGREER, Floyd FILSON, Raymond FILSON and Ruth CARTER.
