He Was Called Home.

Charles C. COOK, a young man who was very generally known in Fairfield and Jefferson county, died in this city Saturday about midnight, after an illness of fourteen months from consumption. Deceased was a son of W. S. and Mary E. COOK, and was born at Waukon, this state, October 3d, 1860. He came to this county in 1874, with his mother and other members of his family, and grew to manhood here. He was married to Miss Mary WILLIAMS of Keosauqua, who, with one child, a daughter of five years, survives him, in 1886. A year later Mr. COOK removed to Coal Creek, Col., where he found employment and remained for some time. He returned to this city and was engaged in the restaurant business, and finally removed to Ottumwa, where he owned a grocery store when his illness began. Since his return to Fairfield Mr. COOK has been gradually but certainly failing in health and strength. He knew that the end was near, but he endured his sufferings with patience and calmly and resignedly awaited death. That strength of character, those manly excellences which marked his years of health and strength sustained him in weakness and affliction. He had no dread of death beyond the sad parting with those who were near and dear to him, and he passed quietly and peacefully away. Funeral services were held at the family residence Monday at 3 o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev. E. L. Schreiner and Rev. G. W. Mapes. The body was interred with the honors of Odd Fellowship.

The family desires to return its thanks to the friends who manifested so many kindnesses in its hour of affliction.
