Former Fairfield resident Charles G. 'Buck" COLE, 93, of Bradenton, Fla., died at Bradenton on Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Elliott of the First United Methodist Church officiating. The Elks tribute will be conducted by the Fairfield Elks Lodge. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, with honors by the Iowa State Patrol.
Masonic rites will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home. Visitation will follow from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital or Elks National Foundation.
The son of Gilbert and Martha DARNELL COLE, he was born in Fairfield on March 16, 1906 (note: born 1905 per gravestone). He married Adeline JOHNSON on Sept. 1, 1928, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They moved to Fairfield in 1945 and to Bradenton in 1995. Mrs. COLE preceded her husband in death on Feb. 7, 1997.
He served with the Iowa State Patrol, retiring in 1962 as a lieutenant. He was the last surviving member of the original 50 State Patrol officers. In 1965, he started work for the Parsons College Security Department.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 15 AF&AM, KAABA Shrine, and BPO Elks No. 1192.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna DAVISON of Bradenton and Darnell SCHMITZ of Waukegan, Ill.; a sister, Phylissis GROOMES of Bradenton; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Eva WERTH.
