ROY WELDON ROGERS
Richland

Roy Weldon ROGERS went to meet his Heavenly Father on Dec. 16, 2020.

Roy was born in rural Richland, Iowa, on July 7, 1926, to Curtis C. and Beulah L. (HARRIS) ROGERS. He graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1943. He grew up on his farm southeast of Richland and was involved in agriculture nearly all his life. He planted his first crops in 1944 and took over the farm work from his Dad, Curtis, and remained a farmer until he harvested his last crop in 2013, his 70th year of farming. He lived in Clay Township his entire life.

On July 7, 1946, he married Edith "Marie" ROGERS (sic - Edith 'Marie' ELMORE). She predeceased him in September 1990. They were both lifetime members of the Pleasant Plain Friends Church.

Roy enjoyed spending lots of hours on his tractor. He loved to fish and hunt and took many grandchildren and spouses and great-grandchildren with him over the years. In 1998, he got his first 10-point buck. He and Marie had traveled the United States extensively as well as Canada. In his earlier farming days, he enjoyed raising cattle, hogs and sheep. He was part of the planning for the Lake Darling watershed program. He showcased his farming conservation from 1947 for the entire time he farmed. He also loved to sing which he did until a couple of weeks before his death. In 2019, he appeared in the Fairfield history series entitled "A Place to Grow," the Evolution of Farming in Fairfield, Iowa. His solo of "Home on the Range" proved his vocal ability at age 93. Another highlight was meeting, Clarence Sly "Roy Rogers" King of the Cowboys in 1991 when daughter, Jean drove him to Victorville, Calif. Arrangements were made to meet him at his museum in Victorville.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Jean WHITE of Mesa, Ariz.; and son, Mark (Caralee) ROGERS of Douds, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Rosanne ROGERS of Fairfield, Iowa; and grandchildren, Brian (Pamela) WHITE of Lafayette, Ind., Lori (Gino) CHAMALBIDE of Chandler, Ariz., Michael (Virginia) WHITE of Herzliya, Israel, Brent (Renee) ROGERS of Ottumwa, Iowa, Anita (Chad) McCUE of Lexington, Ill., Curtis (LaShai) ROGERS of Packwood, Iowa, Andy (Brittany) ROGERS of Packwood, Iowa, Jamie (Thad) MARTIN of Batavia, Iowa, Jerry ROGERS of Gilbert, Ariz., and Jacob ROGERS of Douds, Iowa. Roy's 17 great grandchildren are Angelina WHITE, Connor and Caitlin CHAMALBIDE, Ayva and Madison WHITE, Cyrus and Hannah ROGERS, Cole, Gray, Eva and Cameron McCUE, Weston and Owen ROGERS, Mackenzie and Cale MARTIN, and Kiera and Raegan ROGERS.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; son, Daniel, in November 2020; and brother and his wife, Eldon (Eloise) ROGERS.
