MISS EMMA W. CLARKE DIED THIS AFTERNOON

Miss Emma Wadsworth CLARKE died at half past one o'clock this afternoon. After years of suffering she decided, on the advice of a most skilled surgeon, to submit to a cutical (sic - critical) operation that gave chances of life and comfort.

This operation was performed last Wednesday. She got along well until this morning when there was a sudden collapse.

The time of the funeral has not been arranged.

FUNERAL OF MISS EMMA CLARKE HELD TODAY

The funeral service of Miss Emma CLARKE will be held this afternoon at five o'clock at the home of her brother Dr. J. Fred CLARKE on South Third street.

Emma Wadsworth CLARKE was born in Mt. Pleasant, September 28th, 1845. She came to Fairfield with her parents in 1857 and has resided here for fifty-eight years. For the past thirty years she has been an invalid, but in spite of her suffering she was always interested in public and civic affairs. Having no children of her own she continually helped her nieces and nephews.

Believing that her long suffering could be relieved by a cricital operation she went to the Hospital but after doing well for three days her strength failed and she died Saturday, July 31st, 1915.

MISS EMMA W. CLARKE PASSED AWAY SATURDAY

Miss Emma Wadsworth CLARKE passed away at the Jefferson County Hospital Saturday afternoon following an operation on the preceding Wednesday. She was thought to be recovering as rapidly as could be expected until Saturday morning when she suffered a relapse.

The funeral services were held Monday evening at five o'clock from the home of her brother. Dr. J. Fred CLARKE, on South Third street and were in charge of the Eastern Stars.

Miss CLARKE was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles S. CLARKE and was born at Mt. Pleasant, September 28th, 1845. She came to Fairfield in company with her parents in 1857 and has since resided here.

Although suffering an affliction which practically made her an invalid for the last thirty years, she took an active interest in social and civic affairs.

Note: Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA, in Lot Old.P.230. Although her obituaries and death certificate note she was born in 1845, her gravestone and the 1900 Census have a birth year of 1846. Her middle name of WADSWORTH was her mother's maiden name.
