Mount PleasantRoberta Ruth "Tootie" RIDER KINNEY, 89, of Mount Pleasant, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2929, at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mount Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).
Tootie was born July 10, 1931, in Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Raymond and Ethel May (SIMONS) RIDER. She was united in marriage to Wendell Allan KINNEY on Jan. 30, 1955, he preceded her in death on March 8, 2016. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1949 and attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Questers and Ladies Church Circle. She was an avid bowler. She worked for Iris Realty in the office before she became a mother. She was a super fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was a wonderful cook, avic reader, a lover of classic movies and was an amazing singer.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Jane) KINNEY of Mount Pleasant; one granddaughter, Paige (Spencer) NEWMAN of Mount Pleasant; two great-grandchildren, Brantley and Piper NEWMAN; honorary family members, Allison Sullivan and her children, Audrey and Rowan of Navarre, Fla.; three nephews, Steven (Ellen) THOMPSON of Portsmouth, R.I., Page (Rodie) THOMPSON of Orleans, Mass., and Charles (Angela) THOMPSON of Mahopac, N.Y.; four great-nephews; one great-great-niece; two brothers-in-law, Wayne (Judy) KINNEY of Cedar Rapids and Larry KINNEY of Minnesota, along with many nephews and nieces on her late husband's side of the family.
Tootie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Joyce THOMPSON; her parents-in-law, five sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-laws (sic).
Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. David Bracht-Wagner officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. The family will not be present. Memorials may be directed to Lincoln or Harlan Schools for reading books for children in her memory.
