BESSIE CLARK, P. O. EMPLOYEE, PASSES AWAY
Died Early This Morning After Several Month's Illness

Miss Bessie CLARK, former window clerk at the Fairfield postoffice and one of Fairfield's best known citizens, passed away at the Jefferson County Hospital at 12:50 this morning. She had been ill with a complication of diseases for several months.

Miss CLARK entered the post office under Postmaster G. D. McGaw, in 1897 and has served under all of the succeeding postmasters, including postmaster P. S. Junkin. To many former residents of the city, call at the postoffice assured the only certain contact with former friends and Miss CLARK always made it a point to see that the prodigal was given a cordial welcome.

Had Miss CLARK lived two weeks longer and had she been able to have served until then she would have rounded out a full 35 years as an employee of the Fairfield postoffice. She entered the service when the postoffice was located where the Railway Express office is now lcoated on South Court street and had participated in the two subsequent removals to larger and better quarters. On April 1, of this year she took retirement owing to poor health.

Miss CLARK was the daughter of the late W. M. and Ellen CLARK having been born Sept. 20, 1868. Her father died many years ago and her mother more recently. One brother Horace and two sistes (sic) Nellie and Annie preceded her in death. One brother, Fred, survives. He, with his family, resides in North Platte, Nebr.

No funeral arrangements have been made pending the arrival this evening of her brother.

Around The Town
By the Inquiring Reporter

There is no one the community will miss more than Miss Bessie CLARK who died at the hopsital yesterday. Through the many months of her serious and fatal illness the cheerful and happy disposition of Miss CLARK will long be remembered, constantly assuring her many callers that she would be about even to resuming her former position occupied at the postoffice. Miss CLARK brings to our memory Stevenson's value of a friend. So long as we love we serve. So long as we are loved by others I would almost say that we are indispensable.

MANY FRIENDS PAY TRIBUTE TO BESSIE CLARK
Services Held Yesterday Afternoon in Methodist Church

Impressive funeral services yesterday afternoon in the First Methodist church marked the last tribute paid Miss Bessie CLARK by her friends and associates. The edifice was filled by friends, many of whom had come for miles to honor the woman who had won their esteem and affection.

Miss CLARK was well known because of her many years in the Fairfield post office. Had she lived a few weeks longer she would have completed thirty-five years of service as a government employee.

The services in the church were in charge of Dr. U. S. Smith, pastor of the church, who paid a high tribute to the friendly attitude of Miss CLARK. Mrs. Frank Pierson, Miss Cora Ball, Paul Coleson and Harold Ewing sang "Jesus Lover Of My Soul," "No Night There" and "Abide With Me." They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. E. G. Linder.

The pallbearers were John Cochran, John Stephenson, Ralph Gilmer, D. A. Ricketts, Arthur Greef and William Schroeder, employees of the postoffice and close friends. The employees of of (sic) the postoffice attended the services in a body as did the Fairfield Rebekah lodge No. 96 of which she was a member.

Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
