W. B. CASTELL HUNG SELF IN STABLE AT NOON TODAY.

W. B. CASTELL, who lived on his farm just south of the city, committed suicide this noon, hanging himself from the hay track in the barn.

The body was first discovered by U. L. McGAW, who is a brother-in-law who made his home there, shortly after 12 o'clock. Mr. CASTELL had been in the house near 11 o'clock and the body was still warm when found. He has been in a very melancholy and depressed mood for several years and has been away from home a part of the time for treatment.

He had gone to the barn and taken a long rope halter which he climbed up and fastened to the hay track in the top of the loft. He must have then placed the rope around his neck and jumped, his neck being broken.

The sheriff and coroner were at once notified, and went to the home and viewed the remains. No inquest will be held, however.

Mrs. CASTELL was taken to the hospital yesterday for an operation and it is probable that this was one of the contributing causes of her husband's action. She was operated upon this morning, and the sad news is being witheld (sic) from her for the time.

James William Bernard CASTELL was 57 years old, and was born near Salina. He was a son of John M and Clara CASTELL. He leaves his wife, two sons, Bernard and John and two brothers, Alfred and Ernie CASTELL, both of whom reside at a distance.

No arrangements for the funeral have as yet been made.
