JOHN CARR IS SUICIDE LATE TUESDAY HERE
Body Found in Cellar By Wife Shortly After 5:00 O'clock

Sending a bullet through his own brain with a borrowed gun, John CARR, 59, retired farmer living at 404 West Carpenter street, took his own life late Tuesday afternoon.

The body was found lying at the foot of the cellar stairs, in the CARR home, by Mrs. CARR, shortly afer 5:00 o'clock, after she had returned home from a shopping expedition downtown.

Mr. CARR, according to County Attorney C. C. Tallman and Sheriff Fred R. McIntire, who were called, had placed a borrowed .32 calibre rifle against the left side of his head, a short distance back of the eye, and shot himself. The bullet passed out of the head at correspoinding point on the right side of the head.

No note was left, according to the officers, but it is believed that ill health was the cause for the act.

No inquest will be held, the Coroner stated.

The gun used had been borrowed by Mr. CARR about 2:00 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, from Gilbert McClaran, a local meat market operator. About 3:30, Mr. McClaran became uneasy about the matter and sent to the CARR house for the firearm. A college boy staying at the house answered the door knock, and shouted through the house but received no answer. Then, he informed Mr. McClaran's messenger that he supposed Mr. CARR had gone out.

The deed is supposed to have been committed shortly after Mr. CARR returned home with the rifle, the officers say.

The body was taken to the Hoskins Funeral Home.

Mr. CARR was born near Packwood on April 2, 1875. He has lived all his life in Jefferson county, retiring from the farm and moving to Fairfield about 14 years ago. His wife is the only surviving member of his immediate family.

The CARR funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, at the Hoskins funeral home, in charge of Dr. U. S. Smith. Burial will be in the Fairfield cemetery (sic - Evergreen Cemetery).
