Jefferson County Coroner Jack Raymond said today no inquest would be held in the death of Mrs. Hugh CARMICHAEL after her body was found at her home at 302 E. Jefferson street.
Raymond estimated she had been dead about 14 hours. Death was due to natural causes, he said. Neighbors entered the CARMICHAEL home this morning when they noticed a light burning and no smoke coming from the chimney. Mrs. CARMICHAEL's body was found in a chair next to a heating stove.
Mrs. CARMICHAEL had been a resident of Fairfield for more than 50 years. She was born November 16, 1874 on a farm near Udell, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John VAUGHT. She was first married to William VERNON who died in 1915.
On November 8, 1925 she married Hugh CARMICHAEL who preceded her in death January 24, 1946.
Survivors include the following step-children: Mrs. Edith SCHAFER, Ottumwa; Mrs. Effie JOHNSTON, Libertyville, and Mrs. Elizabeth NIXON, Stockport.
Two sister (sic) and three brothers are deceased.
The body is at the Weston Behner Funeral home where funeral services are pending.
