BURKE Rites On Tuesday

Peter Paul BURKE, 60, native of Fairfield and a former longtime member of the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department, died Saturday at 12:35 p.m., Saturday, June 29, at the Ottumwa Hospital (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

He had been a patient in Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa since suffering a stroke in 1972.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Louis Leonhardt officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Prayers for a Christian Wake will be recited this evening, Monday, at the Raymond Funeral Home.

Peter Paul BURKE was born Aug. 11, 1913, in Fairfield, the son of Frank and Dorthea SHEMANSKI BURKE. He was reared and educated in Fairfield.

He was employed at the Iowa Malleable for a number of years and was driver for the Fairfield Fire Department for 28 years, from 1944 to 1972 when he retired because of ill health.

BURKE was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Survivors include his mother; one sister, Mrs. Joseph STRANG, Mount Pleasant; three brothers, Robert and Bernard, both of Fairfield; and Albert, Washington, D.C.
