MRS. BUERKENS DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Funeral services will be conducted here on Thursday

Mrs. Charles E. BUERKENS, 66, died Tuesday at 9:45 p.m. in her home southwest of Fairfield following an extended illness.

Mrs. BUERKENS was born Feb. 20, 1875 in Pella. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. GAASS, who preceded her in death. She was a resident of Fairfield community for the past 22 years and prior to that time she resided near Albia. She was an active member of the Libertyville Methodist church.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from the Weston Behner funeral home. The Rev. John Lathrop of Libertyville will officiate assisted by Rev. S. P. Wiliamson (sic). Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Surviving are the husband, Charles E. BUERKENS and the following children: Mrs. Noble KIGER of Fairfield; Julius Edward of Mt. Pleasant; John Bernard of the U. S. Navy; Earl Eugene of El Cerrito, Calif.; Archie Overkamp at home; Barney at home; Mrs. Carl BONNETT of Batavia; Charles Henry of Berkeley, Calif.; Robert Lee of Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Frank LANE of Stockport; Max Gerard, Lloyd Gene, and Bobbie Byron all of the U. S. N. Four grandchildren and five sisters, Mrs. Lee H. CLARK of Chillicothe, Mo., Mrs. H. Paul Harper SCHOLTE of Pella, Mrs. Louise BRUCE of Pella, and Mrs. P. H. KUYPER of Pella also survive.

MRS. AMELIA GAASS BUERKENS

Amelia Gertrude GAASS BUERGENS (sic) daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. GAASS, was born February 20, 1875, at Pella Iowa. She passed to the everlasting arms of God, eternal on September 16, 1941.

On January 1, 1896 she was united in marriage with Charles Edward BUERKENS. To their union were given thirteen children. These thirteen today bow their heads and hearts with the passing of the finest mother in all the world.

Their names are: Mrs. Noble KIGER of Fairfield; Mrs. Carl BONNETT of Batavia; Mrs. Frank LANE of Stockport, Julius Edward of Mt. Pleasant; Earl Eugene of El Cerrito, California; Archie Overkamp at home; Barney at home; John Bernard of the U. S. Navy; Max Gerard of the U. S. Navy; Lloyd Gene of the U. S. Navy; Bobbie Byron of the U. S. Navy; Charles Henry of Berkeley, Calif.; Robert Lee of Oakland, Calif.

All of the thirteen were unable to attend the funeral. Yet in spirit, if not in presence they all feel this definite loss to their lives.

Left to mourn also are four sisters: Mrs. Lee H. CLARK of Chillicothe, Mo.; Mrs. H. Paul SCHOLTE of Pella, Iowa; Mrs. Louise BRUCE of Pella; Mrs. P. H. KUYPER of Pella.

Also four grandchildren: Russel Earl BUERKENS, Dianna Elizabeth BUERKENS, Edward Chandler BONNETT and Jerry Lee LANE.

Add to these other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors and you will always find a mother, sister, wife or friend that lived a life of beauty and love.

Amelia BUERKENS was a member of the Methodist church of Libertyville at the time of her going. In the greater part of the past year, though she could not attend, yet she was faithful in spirit.

Funeral services were held Thursday September 18 at 2:30 at the Weston Behner Funeral home in charge of Rev. John Lathrop, pastor of the Libertyville Methodist church assisted by Rev. S. P. Williamson, pastor of the Fairfield First Christian church. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery.

Songs were sung by Mrs. Earl Baker and Mrs. Bessie Armstrong accompanied by Mrs. Mac Davis. They sank (sic) "In the Garden" "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Sometime We'll Understand." The pallbearers were sons and sons-in-law Archie BUERKENS, Barney BUERKENS, Charles BUERKENS, Robert BUERKENS, Carl BONNETT and Frank LANE.
