CLARENCE BONNETT

Clarence BONNETT, 22 years old, died at the Jefferson County Hospital this morning at 8:45.

The body was taken to the Campbell Funeral Home in Fairfield.

OBITUARY

Clarence Nance (sic - Vance) BONNETT

Clarence Nance BONNETT (sic), youngest son of Dan and Maggie BONNETT was born July 29, 1909 near Libertyville, in Jefferson county, Iowa. He died July 11, 1934 at the age of 24 years, 11 months and 11 days. At the age of 20 months by an unavoidable accident lost his eyesight. Although it caused him a great deal of sufferig (sic) he bore it with a smile and a kind word to everyone.

He leaves his loving parents and also three sisters and three brothers to mourn his departure. The brothers and sisters are: Mrs. Hattie WILLIAMS and Mrs. Lessie YERION of Fairfield, Ira BONNETT at home. Harry BONNETT of Ottumwa, Lester BONNETT of Springfield, Ohio and Mrs. Lottie LOWE of Richmond, Indiana.

The funeral was held at Campbell's funeral home Friday 13, at 2:00 o'clock. He was buried at Evergreen cemetery. The pallbearers were: Lester BONNETT, Ira BONNETT, Harry BONNETT, Fred WILLIAMS, Milton YERION and Birdell LOWE. The singers were: Mrs. H. P. Campbell and Bernice Behner.

Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.228. His age on his Death Certificate is noted as 22 years, 11 months, 12 days, which would indicate he was born in 1911, however he appears in the 1910 census (taken April 26th, 1910) as being 1 year, 9 months old (and therefore born in 1908). Perhaps two or three siblings' births are being confused here. There's a notice in "The Fairfield Tribune" in early August, 1908, of a baby coming to the Dan BONNETT home, but no mention of the baby's gender or name. That noted, Clarence appears to be the youngest of his siblings, and I could find no story about him losing his sight that might better confirm his birthdate.
