A Sad Death.

Thursday afternoon last, at her home in this city, occurred the death of Mrs. Helen V. BOCKIUS, wife of A. W. BOCKIUS, for several years a resident of this city and, well known and respected by all our people. For several years Mrs. BOCKIUS had been a sufferer from dropsy, and this winter had been confined to her home the greater part of the time. She was taken very seriously ill a few days preceding her death, and felt that her end was near. Her death was calm and peaceful and apparently painless. Helen V. RHODES was born in Warrenton, Virginia, August 6th, 1833, and was forty-eight years of age at the time of her death. Her earlier years were spent in her native state, but she afterwards became a resident of Brownsville, Pa., where, on Feb. 15th, 1854, she was married to Mr. BOCKIUS. A year or two after their marriage the young couple removed to Bellevue, Iowa, which place was their home from 1856 until February, 1876, when they removed to this city, where they have since resided. At an early age Mrs. BOCKIUS connected herself with the M. E. church, but since 1860 has been a consistent member of the Presbyterian denomination, and with the latter society of this city both husband and wife have identified themselves during their residence here.

Mrs. BOCKIUS was a particularly amiable woman, and endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact in neighborly and social life. Her kindly disposition was lavished upon those around her, and she was a most affectionate and devoted wife and friend.-- Though of a retiring nature and devoting herself almost exclusively to her husband and her home, she still won many friends during her short residence here who loved and admired her true womanhood. The funeral occurred Saturday afternoon from her late residence, Dr. Ewing delivering the funeral discourse. A large number of friends followed the remains to the grave, and paid the last sad duties to their dead friend.
