Death of Henry D. BLOUGH.

Henry D. BLOUGH, one of Jefferson county's best known farmers and stock-growers, died at his home three miles southeast of this city Friday evening at 5:40. HE had been ill since early in February with a disease which baffled medical treatment, and which an autopsy showed to be cancer of the stomach and liver. Mr. BLOUGH was born in Somerset county, Penn., July 14th, 1830, and removed to Ohio with his parents when a child of six years. He was married there, January 11th, 1852, to Anna BAUGHMAN, who survives him. The young people went at once to Indiana, where they remained for four years, and in 1856 removed to Davis county, this state. After a residence of nine years there they made their home at Birmingham for a short time and then purchased the farm in Cedar township on which they have since resided. Mr. and Mrs. BLOUGH were the parents of nine children, all of whom are living, the death of the father being the first break in the family, all the children residing in this county except one. They are Simon H., Eli M., Charles D., J. M., Christian N. and John D. BLOUGH, the last of Wayne county, Mrs. T. P. DuBOIS, Mrs. D. B. HEDGE and Mrs. Anna NEWLAND. Mr. BLOUGH was an industrious and progressive farmer and breeder of stock and for many years made a specialty of horses. He was one of the first men in Iowa to mark the advantage in better breeding, one of the first to devote his attention to imported draft horses and probably accomplished as much in this direction as any man in the state. Mr. BLOUGH was a good citizen, a man who was held in high esteem by his neighbors and had been honored with many places of trust in his home township. He was successful in his life's work and leaves his family a competence. Funeral services were held at the family home Sunday afternoon. They were largely attended, and there were almost a hundred vehicles in the procession which escorted the body to the cemetery in this city. The exercises were conducted by Rev. W. W. Miller of Davis county, a minister of the Menonite denomination, with which Mr. BLOUGH had been connected for many years. He was assisted by Rev. Thos. Osborn of this city.
