VERL BLAIR, 49, FATALLY HURT IN FARM FALL

Verl A. BLAIR, 49, prominent Jefferson county farmer, died early this morning at the Jefferson county hospital after he was injured in a fall yesterday at his home four miles north of Fairfield.

Death was caused by a brain concussion.

Members of his family said BLAIR fell a distance of several feet while working inside a corn crib striking his head on the concrete floor. He had been using a stepladder and it was not known whether he fell off the ladder or the wall of the crib. There were no witnesses to the accident.

BLAIR was unconscious when he was found about 11:30 a.m. He was taken to a doctor in Fairfield for treatment after regaining consciousness, but his condition grew worse after he returned to his home. He was removed to the hospital at 2 p.m. and later lapsed into semi-consciousness. Death came at 12:20 a.m.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove church north of Fairfield. Dr. L. L. Weis of Fairfield will be in charge and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will be taken from the Weston Behner Funeral home to the church at 1 p.m.

Graveside services will be conducted by members of the Odd Fellows lodge.

BLAIR was one of the largest farm operators in Jefferson county. He owned several farms north of Fairfield and had fed beef cattle and hogs on an extensive scale for many years.

He was born May 21, 1903 on a farm near Tipton in Cedar county, the son of John and Edith ARGO BLAIR. He came to the Prairie Chapel community in 1913 and had been a resident of Jefferson county since BLAIR was married to Hazel MIKSCH Aug. 22, 1926 in Jefferson county.

He was a member of the Pleasant Grove church and Walnut lodge 317, I.O.O.F., at Perlee. He was county president of the Cornbelt Livestock Feeders association and an active member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Joyce STANLEY, Fairfield; Doris BLAIR, at home, and Mrs. Dixie RUGGLES, Packwood. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John BLAIR, Fairfield; a brother, George R. BLAIR, Gary, Ind., and two grandchildren also survive.
