Rites Thursday For Mrs. Clara BERNARD

Funeral services will be Thursday for Mrs. Clara BERNARD, former Fairfield resident who passed away yesterday afternoon at her home in Cherokee, Iowa (note: in Cherokee Co., IA).

The services will be at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. BERNARD was born June 18, 1866, in Bloomington, Illinois, and was 81 years of age at the time of her death. She formerly lived in Fairfield.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. James TAPPAN, Belle Plaine, Iowa; and Mrs. Fae BARROWS, Austin, Minnesota; and a brother, C. A. SUMMERS, Fairfield.

... --Mr. and Mrs. James TAPPAN, of Belle Plain, came this morning to make arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. TAPPAN's mother, Mrs. Clara BERNARD. Mrs. BERNARD passed away at her home in Cherokee. The body is being brought here for burial. She is a sister of Charles SUMMERS, who lives at 205 E. Burlington. ...

Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.060. She was married twice, first to James Wesley TANNER and second to Bert C. BERNARD. James died in 1922 and is buried in IL. She married Bert in 1925 and they divorced in 1929; he died in 1943 and is buried in Marshalltown, IA. Her gravestone is mis-engraved as BENARD.
