William BENDER

FAIRFIELD -- William BENDER, 72, died in Jefferson County hospital Aug. 24, at 7:20 a.m. He had been in failing health for several years, and had been living at the Crawford nursing home prior to his entry to the hospital on July 28.

A native of Kansas, BENDER was born June 22, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael BENDER. As a young man he settled in Henry county, Iowa. He moved to Fairfield in 1924.

BENDER was married to Idella Ruth COREY at Wayland on Dec. 31, 1912. She died Oct. 6, 1944.

BENDER was a former employe of the city of Fairfield. He was a member of the Four-Square Gospel church.

Surviving are a son and a daughter: Harold BENDER, Davenport, and Mrs. Edith VORHIES, Fairfield, and six grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother and two sisters: Eli BENDER, living in Kansas; Mrs. Homer CALHOUN, of Aurora, Ill., and Mrs. Horra SCHAKE, of Durango, Colo.

Last rites will be held at the Hoskins funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday. Officiating will be the Rev. D. C. Howse, pastor of the Four-Square church.

Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

WILLIAM BENDER, FORMER RESIDENT, TAKEN

William BENDER, 72, former Wayland resident, now of Fairfield, passed away at the Jefferson county hospital, Wednesday, August 24th.

BENDER was a native of Kansas. He was married to Idella Ruth COREY in Wayland Dec. 31, 1912, who preceded him in passing in 1944. The BENDERs moved to Fairfield in 1924.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Edith VORHIES o fFairfield (sic) and one son, Harold BENDER of Davenport and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be hedl (sic) from the Hoskins funeral home in in Fairfield (sic) at 2 p.m. Friday, with Rev. D. C. Howe officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

… Those who attended the Wm. BENDER funeral in Fairfield last Friday afternoon from Wayland were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Nebel, Mr. and Mrs. Elon Boshart, Mrs. Lester Roth and Mrs. W. L. McMickle.
