MRS. SARAH BELL AGE 94 IS DEAD
Funeral Will Be Saturday afternoon From the Christian Church

Mrs. Sarah A. BELL died this morning at 3 oclock at the age of 94 years at the home of her daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Mary A. DAVIDSON and Mrs. Luther QUILLEN, 200 North Fifth street. She had been seriously ill for the past two weeks and for the past five years has been bedfast as the result of a broken hip.

The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Christian church in charge of Rev. R. H. Polly, interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. BELL was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel SPENCER and she was born June 25, 1834 in Jefferson county, Ohio. She was married March 24, 1853 in Little Fork, Ohio to John S. BELL, who passed away in this city March 10, 1914. Shortly after their marriage 75 years ago they came to Iowa where they resided on a farm northwest of this city for 18 years. They then returned to Ohio where they lived three years and then came back to Fairfield where they have since made their home. A girl and two boys died when small. Two children survive: Mrs. Mary A. DAVIDSON and Samuel BELL, and several grgandchildren (sic) and great-grandchildren.

Just Among Ourselves

… --Mrs. N. P. MILMOE and son Joe departed yesterday morning by motor for their home in Chicago, Ill., after being here to attend the funeral of the former's aunt, Mrs. Sarah A. BELL. Mrs. Mary A. DAVIDSON accompanied them home for a several weeks' visit.

MRS. SARAH BELL RITES SATURDAY
Were Held From the Christian Church at 2:30 and Were Largely Attended

The last rites for Mrs. Sarah A. BELL, pioneer resident of this city who passed away Thursday morning, were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 oclock from the Christian church. Rev. R. H. Polly conducted the services in the presence of many relatives and friends.

Mrs. Norvell Switzer and Mrs. Anderson Patten with Miss Reva Patten at the organ sang the songs "Abide With Me", "Death Is Only a Dream" and "Going Down the Valley One By One". The pall bearers were all great grandsons of the deceased: Carl and Merle DAVIDSON, Albert and Fry WATERHOUSE, Stanley BROWN and Harold BRAY. Burial took place in Evergreen cemetery. There was a profusion of lovely flowers from the relatives and friends.

Those from away for the funeral were: Mrs. N. J. MILMOE and son Joe of Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Studer and daughter Mary of Albia, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hull, Mrs. Bell Bennett and son Fred, Merle DAVIDSON and Mrs. Irene Lynch of Ottumwa, Mr. and Mrs. George Durflinger and Mr. and Mrs. John DAVIDSON and daughter Ruby of Agency. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest BROWN and children of Douds, Mr. M. F. Parks of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Davis of Bloomfield, Miss Leita Stewart of Washington and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bottger of Ollie.

OBITUARY

Mrs. Sarah A. BELL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel SPENCER, was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, June 25, 1834, and departed this life at the home of her daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Mary A. DAVIDSON and Mrs. Luther QUILLEN, Fairfield, Iowa, Oct. 11, 1928, at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 14 days. She had been seriously ill for the past two weeks and for the past five years she had been bedfast with a broken hip as a result of a fall.

On March 24, 1853, at Little York, Ohio, she was united in marriage to John S. BELL who passed away at his home in this city, March 10, 1914.

Shortly after their marriage they came to Iowa by wagon train and settled on a farm near Brighton, staying there about three years later moving to a farm near Veo. About nine years later they moved to a farm about seven miles northwest of Fairfield. Selling this farm they moved back to Ohio staying there three years, then moving back to Iowa buying the same farm they left. They continued to live on this farm until about 20 years ago when they moved to Fairfield.

Mrs BELL was a member of the Christian Church and took great interest in the welfare of the local congregation. She was faithful even unto death.

A girl and two little boys preceded her in death, two of them being buried in the same grave. Two children survive: Mrs. Mary DAVIDSON and S. P. BELL of this city. There are seven grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from the Christian church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by her pastor, Rev. R. H. Polly. Mrs. Anderson Patten and Mrs. Norvel Switzer with Miss Reva Patten at the piano sang "Abide With Me," "Death is Only a Dream" and Going Down the Valley." The pall bearers were all great grandsons: Carl and Merle DAVIDSON, Albert and Fry WATERHOUSE, Stanley BROWN and Harold BRAY. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
