Many Will Mourn Mr. BEATTY.

Guilan (sic) BEATTY died in this city Thursday night. He had been in ill health for several months, but it was not until a few weeks past that his condition was considered really critical. Mr. BEATTY had been a resident of Fairfield continuously since 1860. During much of that time he had been a dealer in live stock, and there were few men in the county who had a more general acquaintance. He was a man whose honesty and integrity were unquestioned and he enjoyed the confidence of the people with whom he had dealt for so many years to a remarkable degree. There were few farm homes in the county in which he was not known and few where his calls were not always welcomed, and his death will be very generally regretted.

Mr. BEATTY was born in Richland county, O., November 17th, 1845, and came to this county with his father, the late David BEATTY, when a lad of fifteen. In Fairfield, November 28th, 1866, he was married to Sarah BARNES, who survives him. They were the parents of one child, Harry, now a resident of this city. Three sisters and four brothers, all of whom were once residents of this county, survive him. Funeral services were held at the family home on South Main street Sunday afternoon. They were conducted by Rev. Thos. Osborn. There was an unusually large attendance upon these exercises and the number of friends from the country was particularly noticeable. Among those present from abroad were Theodore BEATTY, Mrs. J. F. MADDEN, Mrs. J. F. SCHOOLEY and Mr. and Mrs. R. A. CRAWFORD, Des Moines; Walker BEATTY, Guthrie Center; Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Matthews, Ft. Collins, Col.

Death of a Pioneer.

Guylan BEATTY was born in Mansfield, Richland county, Ohio, Nov. 17, 1845. When he was fifteen years old the family moved to Iowa, settling in Fairfield. Three sisters and four brothers survive him, he being the first one of the children to die. The sisters are Mrs. Nettie MADDEN, Mrs. Robt. CRAWFORD and Mrs. Alice SCHOOLEY, all of Des Moines. The brothers are Theo. and David of Des Moines, Walker of Guthrie Center, Ia., and Chas. of Chicago. Nov. 28, 1866, he was married to Miss Sarah BARNES, who with their only child, Harry, survives him.

Mr. BEATTY had been in business in Fairfield for many years and was widely known. Many a resident of Fairfield will miss the kindly, quiet and genial personality of Mr. BEATTY, who was so generally and favorably known.

He united with the Harmony M. E. church in the early seventies, remaining a member until the disbanding of that society. Mr. BEATTY had been in failing health for some months and seemed to realized that his time was short. His last brief illness lasting about two weeks was one of intense pain, which he bore with becoming fortitude. He passed out of life through the gate of suffering on Friday, July 7th, at 12:20 a.m.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thos. Osborn of the M. E. church, from the family residence at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, July 9th. The remains were laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery. The large attendance showed his wide popularity and the high regard in which he was held by the community in which he lived.
