BIRMINGHAM -- Florence M. BATES, 86, died Sunday evening in Van Buren Memorial Hospital at Keosauqua after suffering a heart attack in her home at Birmingham.
The body is at the Burch Funeral Home in Birmingham where last rites are pending.
Florence M. BATES was born Aug. 2, 1888, in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of James and Emma BREM BAILEY. She was married Oct. 21, 1908, in Fairfield to Clarence BATES who survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bernice HIRD, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Henrietta HELFENSTINE, Peoria, Arizona; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Irene CARLSON, Fairfield.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters. Mrs. BATES was a member of the Birmingham Free Methodist Church.

BIRMINGHAM -- Funeral services for Mrs. Florence BATES, who died Sunday evening, will be held Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 2 p.m., at the Birmingham Free Methodist Church with the Rev. J.P. Knepper and the Rev. Jack Wilson officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. Friends may call at the Burch Funeral Home in Birmingham.
