Mrs. Morton BARNS
FAIRFIELD -- Mrs. Morton M. BARNES, 51 Forest Drive, died Aug. 8, at 6:45 a.m., in Jefferson County hospital. Death was due to a heart ailment. She was 58 years old.
The former Carrie Almeda (Allie) STEWART, Mrs. BARNS was the daughter of the Rev. Samuel S. and Carrie Almeda HAWORTH-STEWART. She was graduated from the Fairfield high school and from Iowa Success Business college, Ottumwa, and for several years was employed in the law offices of Leggett & McKemey. On July 3, 1932 (sic - 1921), she was married to Morton McKinley BARNS. They were married in Fairfield, BARNS died Apr. 12, 1954.
Mrs. BARNS was a member of the Business and Professional Womens club, which she served as president from 1932 to 1934. She was also a member of the Woman's club.
Surviving are five brothers and four sisters: The Rev. Henry STEWART, Long Beach, Calif.; Raymond R., Wilson T., Merle E. and Weston E. STEWART, all of Fairfield; Mrs. John BARTLETT, Chicago; Mrs. H. H. MOORE, Sarasota, Fla.; Mrs. Morton C. CARD, Van Nuys, Calif., and Mrs. Cora LeGRESLEY, of Emporia, Kan.
Last rites will be held at 10:30 Wednesday morning at the Weston Behner funeral home. The Rev. Harold T. Rasche, pastor of the Free Methodist church, will officiate, and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
