Well Known Resident Of Fairfield Passed Away Sunday a. m.Charles Marshall BARNES, 305 East Adams street, passed away early yesterday morning following an illness of the past sixteen months. He had been confined to his bed for two months.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the Hoskins Funeral Home in charge of Dr. Gilbert Voorhies. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. BARNES was born July 19, 1874. He is survived by his wife and one son, Marshall H., at home. Also the following brothers and sisters: John M. BARNES of Canyon City, Colo., Mrs. Dwight McGAUGHEY of Keokuk, and Mrs. George WOODS, Mrs. Alva CUMMINGS and Mrs. Ray KIRKPATRICK of Fairfield.

CHAS. M. BARNES
Charles Marshall BARNES, son of John Clark and Sarah MARSHALL BARNES was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, July 19, 1874, and after an illness of 16 months, departed this life, Sunday, June 26, 1932, at 4 o'clock a. m., at his home, 305 East Adams St., Fairfield, Iowa.
Mr. BARNES came with his parents to Iowa in the fall of 1879 from Kansas where the family had lived for three years.
He grew to manhood in Jefferson county,and (sic) on May 28, 1912 he was united in marriage to Miss May TURNER at the home of her parents in Monroe county Iowa.
One son, Marshall Hayelwool, was born to this union, being ten years old at the time of his father's death.
Besides his wife and son he leaves to mourn his death, the following brothers and sisters, John M. BARNES of Canon City, Colo., Mrs. Geo C. WOODS, Mrs. W. F. CUMMINGS and Mrs. Ray KIRKPATRICK of Fairfield and Mrs. J. D. McGAUGHEY of Keokuk, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; also one sister, Mrs. Elmer DUNLAP who passed away July 25, 1931.
When a young man he united with the Presbyterian church where he has been a consistent member. He was a member of the Men's Bible class and served as an officer of that organization, as he did also on the Board of Deacons.
He joined Jefferson Lodge No. 4 I. O. O. F. Sept. 29, 1896. He was also a member of the other branches of the order.
"Charlie," as he was familiarly known to his many friends, was of a quiet and retiring disposition, being devoted to his home and family, and especially was a "Pal" to his small son. His kind deeds and neighborly acts are a silent tribute to his memory. He numbered his friends among people in all walks of life and it was said to him by a friend, during his illness, that he had no enemies.
Funeral services were held at the Hoskins Funeral Rome (sic), Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Dr. Gilbert Voorhies.
The casket attendants were B. H. Elliott, J. E. Fleming, J. M. Knowles, Fred C. Johnson, Harry Lyon and Abner Anderson.
Miss Cora Ball sang "No Night There" accompanied by Mrs. Gilbert Voorhies.
Interment in Evergreen cemetery with the Odd Fellow burial service at the grave.
